The Inertia

Crosby Colapinto was one of many last-minute updates to the Championship Tour roster this season. Though he suffered a broken elbow right before the now-imminent Pipe Pro season opener, a new Instagram post from the San Clemente surfer shows that he’s making progress on recovery.

The initial incident happened just a week ago, while Colapinto was surfing Backdoor in Oahu. “I jumped forward off my board after the back spit because I was too deep,” Colapinto explained on Instagram. “[I] fell into the vortex of the lip and the lip ended up going straight to the bottom breaking the flat water. I didn’t touch any water and straight elbow to reef. So grateful that it was my elbow and not something way worse.”

Though he went into surgery just a few days later, news of the results haven’t come in until now. “Update on the elbow situation… surgery went well on Wednesday with Dr. Kramer,” wrote Colapinto on Instagram, under a post of x-rays and pictures of him in the hospital. “Got a pretty solid screw put in so the last couple days have been pretty painful, but healing process has started, just slowly starting to move my arm, and just about two weeks until I can start rehab. Only up from here!”

Still no word on when Crosby will be able to return to competition.
