It’s been a rough start of the Championship Tour season for Crosby Colapinto. It was shaping up to be a banner year for the San Clemente surfer, but he has been out on injury for every event so far. However, Crosby just updated fans with the information that he is on the road to recovery and back in competition.
It all started when, with just a week before the Pipe Pro season opener, Colapinto suffered a brutal wipeout at Pipeline that landed him with a broken elbow. “I jumped forward off my board after the back spit because I was too deep,” explained Colapinto on an Instagram post announcing the development. “[I] fell into the vortex of the lip and the lip ended up going straight to the bottom breaking the flat water. I didn’t touch any water and straight elbow to reef.”
He underwent a successful surgery on the limb a few days later, but updates since then have been few and far between. This weekend, Crosby finally shared more information on his continuing recovery – and things seem to be going well, despite a few setbacks along the way.
“After surgery, I got a bacterial infection from the reef in my elbow that took longer to heal, leaving some scarring,” he wrote on Instagram. “Once it healed, I started physical therapy at MOTUS PT about two weeks ago. Now, it’s Friday, and I’m off to Portugal for the third stop of the year! This has been such an incredible time to sit with myself, reflect, heal, and deepen my understanding of both life and myself. It’s also rekindled my love for surfing after being out of the water. Beyond grateful for everyone who help me get back in the water so quick!”
