Craig Anderson may be one of the best surfboard salesmen of all time. First, of course, there was the edit. Three minutes of “Dude, you gotta watch this” that catapulted a weird hybrid shape into one of the most popular boards on the planet. Then he took the tiny Hayden Cox creation out on a big day at Kandui for an obscene pairing that looked like it couldn’t be real. We’re all guilty of going way too short on bigger days over the past decade because of it. And may of us have bought Hypto Kryptos at one time or another (guilty). They still sell like crazy.
All this is way behind him now and Anderson has accomplished plenty in the decade since, including launching FORMER alongside old Quik teammate, Dane Reynolds.
“I have pushed myself in the last five years in waves that, while not in the big-wave realm, were still well out of my comfort zone,” he told The Inertia last year. “A lot of my surfing has been focused on the New South Wales South Coast and West and South Oz. I was hanging with bodyboarders that chase these empty, hairy, slabs that no one could be bothered dealing with.”
He’s still a wildly creative surfer with distinct style that, while not everybody’s cup of tea, is impossible to miss and just as tough to turn away from. And with all that history and a personal style that can be spotted from a mile away, his name still draws attention when you hear it next to that of a new board or shape. “Craig Anderson Surfs 18-inch Concaved Cafeteria Tray” would earn its fair share of clicks on YouTube.
So here he is on a 5’8″ twin. Don’t expect this to become the surfboard of the year but I’ll bet at least one human being out in the world buys a twin after watching him do his thing.
