Craig Anderson is one of the world’s best surfers. He doesn’t pump out clips every single day, despite the fact that the world would certainly like to see more of his surfing. When he does allow us into his world, though, it’s a sure-fire hit. And his new film, The City of Azaleas, is no different.
Starring Anderson and Kaito Ohashi, the film follows the duo as they explore the waves of Taiwan — which is not the first place you think of when you think of a surf destination. While you surely know of Anderson, you might not be aware of Kaito Ohashi. At 31 years old, he’s someone that everyone should be aware of. His surfing, much like Ando’s is fluid and powerful, full of a casual ease that belies the difficulty of what he’s doing.
Taiwan, as I mentioned, probably isn’t really on your surf-trip radar. It’s filled with waves, though, and as you’ll see in The City of Azaleas, you’re not alone. Anderson and Ohashi sure were. That’s surprising, considering the fact that Taiwan is a pretty busy place. While there are a few events held there, it’s an underrated place when it comes to great waves.
