It’s likely most recent headlines with the word “Mullaghmore” also have the name “Conor Maguire” somewhere in the same sentence. The Donegal-born hellman is getting all the shine the past few days after an XXL session drew out the likes of Nathan Florence, Andrew Cotton, Gearóid Mcdaid, and Nic von Rupp just to name a few. He deserves it. As the man who’s surfed perhaps the biggest wave to ever roll through the County Siglo spot, his name will be attached to just about any highlight reel coming out of Ireland from here on out. And he arguably did steal the show with a 40-foot bomb in last week’s session (pictured above) that saw a mixed crowd of big wave guns and skis with tow ropes. He still wants to make sure everybody else is getting their fair share of praise.
“The other day at Mullaghmore was a truly memorable session. It was amazing to watch everyone pushing their limits paddling, especially with some huge tow sets looming on the horizon,” Maguire wrote over the weekend. “I feel as though the media latched on to my wave and didn’t really give credit to the rest of the people out there. There was a big crew towing and paddling and so many people caught the waves of their lives.”

From the looks of social media feeds and news headlines, Maguire’s wave did own the day in terms of single-moment highlights. But it’s great to see such a humble guy at the top of the totem pole – one who’s giving credit to everybody else filling that lineup.
