Ain’t surfing great? What other sport is shared so closely with nature? What other sport affords both the competitor and the viewer a perfect mashup of competition and National Geographic moments? Conner Coffin shared a beautiful wave at The Box with a pod of dolphins as the world watched. Kelly Slater later called it “the day of the year on tour,” and we’d be inclined to agree.
“Oh, it was insane,” Coffin said through an enormous grin in his post-heat interview. “Kind of started out a little deep, hassling for priority, and then Jesse got that one and I looked up and there were three dolphins right by me and there was this perfect blue set coming. I was just like, ‘oh my God, this is insane!'”
