The Inertia

On January 13, Isla Todos Santos was hit by a swell of historic proportions. The main break there, Killers, was unfathomably big. So big that it nearly killed Coco Nogales. Now, Nogales needs our help.

“Coco broke his pelvis and sacrum after getting caught inside by a cleanup set,” Greg Long explained in a crowdfunding campaign he started to help Nogales. “He was taken to the hospital in Ensenada where he stayed for almost two days before being told they would not operate on him and was asked to leave the hospital.”

Coco, likely in enormous amounts of pain, talked with a few other doctors to figure out what the best course of attack would be.

“After further consultation with multiple medical specialists,” Long continued, “the decision was made to transport him to the U.S.A. where he could receive immediate emergency surgery for his life-threatening injuries.”

Nogales went under the knife to pin his bones back together and all went well. Now, though, he’s looking down the barrel of months of painful rehab and a hefty hospital bill.

“Coco’s surgery was a success and he is in good spirits as he embarks on the lengthy rehabilitation process,” Long wrote. “Unfortunately given the circumstances, he was unable to receive any medical insurance assistance and now faces an overwhelming financial bill and needs our help!”
