Ever since Young Guns II graced the surf scene, the name Clay Marzo will forever be engraved in the minds of every surfer who has had the pleasure of watching him surf. “Clay is a freak on a surfboard,” said 11-time World Champ Kelly Slater. “He does things people don’t even think of. He just sees the wave his own way.” Whether his exceptional surfing abilities are an outcome of his rare form of Autism, or solely a result of natural talent, there is one thing that is less debatable: seeing Clay surf in Indonesia is simply magical. This edit comes to you from Clay’s recent trip to Indo while filming for Tracks Mag’s newest flick Loco Loco (trailer below).
The unique thing about Clay’s knack is that it transcends the category of “great surfing” and enters into the “what the hell was that” category. There are few surfers that have the ability to produce this kind of reaction (John John being one of them). I still don’t know if Clay made a deal with the devil or if he has little magnets on his boards and under his feet. I tend to lean toward the latter.
