I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Clay Marzo is the best surfer on the planet.
One of the best things about him is that he doesn’t care if anyone thinks he’s best surfer on the planet. He would probably prefer that no one saw him surf, in fact. He’s not surfing for anything other than the simple fact that he loves surfing. He’s surfing because he’s a surfer, in every sense of the word.
One of the best things about watching him is his creativity. Another is his spontaneity. Give him a wave with a handful of seemingly impossible sections and he’ll make seemingly impossible things happen.
Although the wave at the Surf Ranch isn’t a wave that panders to a spontaneous surfer — it’s about as far away from that as a wave can be — Clay Marzo manages to be both of those things.
In the past, it’s been a rare thing to see Clay surfing as much as some of us would like to see him surfing. But recently, it looks as though he’s putting some coal into the content furnace. Have a look at his YouTube channel and Instagram for more.
