Unlike ocean surfing, tidal bore surfing is almost exclusively about how much time you can clock on a single wave. Typically, foam is your friend in a situation like that, but for French foiler Philippe Caneri, a 4’3″ gets the job done just fine.
What’s impressive here is the take-off in a thick crowd with a pretty slim margin for error. Once Caneri gets going, though, he cuts through the Seine’s chocolate milk-colored water like a hot knife through butter.
While pretty cool, the Seine’s Mascaret tidal bore is far from the strangest place Caneri has taken his foil. That honor would go to this centuries-old aqueduct that towers above a street below.
