Well, it’s all over. After a roller coaster of a season, John John Florence and Caity Simmers emerged victorious at Lower Trestles in San Clemente. However, for those of you not ready to let go of the 2024 Championship Tour just yet, the World Surf League has a highlight reel made especially for you.
Featuring the Finals surfing of Ethan Ewing, Caitlin Simmers, Caroline Marks, Italo Ferreira, and John John Florence, the 15-minute edit strings together every single wave that scored over eight points – deemed “excellent” in WSL parlance. True to the moniker, the waves are memorable, with an abundance of laybacks, snaps and airs to satiate your hunger for competitive wave riding.
While it’s no surprise that the four finalists feature prominently in the reel, Ethan Ewing deserves recognition for being the lone entrant from the opening rounds. The entry comes courtesy of a searing layback, followed by another two snaps to a closeout that earned him an 8.33 in his opening matchup against Italo Ferreira. Though it didn’t manage to stop Italo’s meteoric rise to the final stage, the ride has a well-earned place in the highlights of the weekend’s proceedings.
