Carissa Moore is an incredible surfer. The 30-year-old from Oahu, Hawaii currently has five world titles under her belt as well as an Olympic gold medal. Last year, Moore wore the yellow jersey almost the entire season. When it came down to the finals at Trestles, she was sitting comfortably in the top spot and it looked like another world title was hers for the taking. Stephanie Gilmore, however, had other plans and delivered an incredible performance, clinching her eighth world title.
“I lost the world title after being in the lead all year,” says Moore. “That was heart wrenching. I started crying hysterically; I was angry. You’re grieving over this thing that you invested so much time in.”
Once again, Moore has been dominating and is currently sitting in the number one position. With one more stop before the finals, Moore has already clinched a spot in the WSL final five and will be competing at Trestles with the hopes of winning her sixth world title.
“I would love to go back to Trestles and fight for a world title,” says Moore. “Given that opportunity again I’d like to see how I could hopefully rise to the occasion.”
Will Moore be able to pull it off and claim another world title? We’ll find out soon.
