Capitulo Perfeito has begun. The one-day tube riding invitational competition got the green light just three days ago, and the contest day is now upon us.
The competition starts with a heat one matchup between Bruno Santos, Anthony Walsh, Francisca Veselko and Rob Machado. It promises to be a strong start right out the gate, with two returning champions (Santos and Walsh), the event’s first female competitor (Veselko), and a legend making his much-anticipated return to competition (Machado).
Heat two pits Aritz Aranburu, Pedro Boonman, Dylan Graves and Salvador Vala against each other. Boonman and Vala are Portuguese fan-favorites, selected via online voting. Aranbaru secured his invite as a two-time champion in 2016 and 1022. Free surfer Graves is a recent addition to the roster, bringing his famous style to the waves of Carcavelos.
Heat three is between Portuguese big wave surfer and three-time champion Nic Von Rupp, Long Beach, New York surfer and 2022 Pipe masters champion Balaram Stack, 2024 Nazare Big Wave Challenge winner Lucas Chianca, and Tiago Stock, who qualified via the 2024 Capitulo Perfeito trials event.
Finally, heat four matches up Tiago Pires, William Aliotti, Nathan Hedge, and João Maria Mendonça. Pires and Aliotti won the event in 2012 and 2018 respectively. Mendonça was another fan-favorite, selected via online voting. Finally, Hedge is a recent addition to the roster, bringing his long history of tube-riding prowess to the competition.
It’s shaping up to be an all-time show. More to come.
