The Inertia

For as gnarly as Cape Solander is, there isn’t all that much carnage of the human kind featured in this video, save a bloody lip or two. There is carnage to mechanical devices, however. In a now infamous event, the vid captures the wreckage as a Jet Ski gets dragged across the rocks on the inside of this notorious slab at the 8:35 mark.

“One of Australia’s most merciless slab waves exists in Sydney and May, in the middle of the Aussie autumn, is a good time for this place to come alive which it did for two consecutive days back on the seventh and eighth,” reads the video description from Tim Bonython. “The first day is big and wild and the following day is one that will go down in the big wave history books not for the crazy, perfect slabbing waves but for the carnage both in body and equipment used.”

Typical suspects like Russell Bierke, Laurie Towner and other local legends were on hand to charge. And charge they did.
