Candide Thovex’s impact on freeskiing will live on long after the French legend hangs them up. He’s provided massive influence in the freeski world with style and flair that’s unmatched and his hometown resort is ensuring at least one tangible piece of his legacy lives on by renaming a ski run in his honor.
La Clusaz is a resort Thovex grew up skiing — something he acknowledged on social media along with the news — and the newly-named “Candide Thovex” run sits near the very chairlift he rode to access its terrain through his formative years.
“I learned to ski at Balme and Balme taught me everything,” he said. “This mountain shaped my skiing. I am honored to see a part of Balme bear my name and I want to thank La Clusaz for this recognition.”
