The Inertia

“Kilgar” is a surfing short film that features surfer Kilian Garland and his quest to land on the dream tour. As the 2017 WSL North American champion, he’s put himself in position to compete in the WQS’ 6,000 and 10,000 point events for the first time.

Of course, with that comes the tireless travel and a solid price tag attached to it all. To be exact, Garland believes he needs about $20,000 to pursue his dream, on top of his own money that he’s invested to this point. So the Santa Barbara local has started a GoFundMe campaign to enlist the help of others. “I have dreamed about qualifying for the WSL championship tour my whole life and have been following that dream on very limited sponsorship for the last 6 years,” he wrote. “My goal is to make the top ten in the WSL World Qualifying Series by December. Your support will go directly towards funding my journey including airfare and entry into the high profile larger point events. I am confident I will be able to translate my success in North America on the global stage and qualify for the dream tour and hope to win my first 3, 6, or 10 thousand event.”

So, could “Kilgard” become the Tour’s first crowdfunded competitor?
