Mysterious Floating Arrow Spotted at Billabong Pro Tahiti

On day seven of the Billabong Pro Tahiti, a mysterious floating arrow appeared on the horizon. It is speculated that some event of massive significance occurred simultaneously.

The Inertia

TAHITI – During a lay day for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, a giant mysterious arrow appeared in the sky. While details are still sketchy, initial reports seem to indicate that the arrow and accompanying floating circle were in some way connected to an event of enormous historical significance.

The arrow materialized during the ASP webcast of the Billabong Pro Tahiti, an event that, so far, has been rife with death-defying wipeouts over a shallow coral reef. While there have been reported sightings in the past, this is the first documented video of one. Early newscasts of the event have since been taken down, and no longer are available for viewing. No reason for the their removal has been given by either the Tahitian government, who are hosting the surfing contest, or the Americans, who are broadcasting it around the globe.

Officials have dubbed the occurrence the “Clikme Phenomenon,” named for professor Herbert Clikme, an Estonian oceanographer who has yet to respond to requests for comment. Attempts to contact family members of Clikme have proven to be difficult, as the Estonian government claims that “no such family has ever existed in Estonia.” Earlier this week, a photo surfaced online of a man on a stand up paddle board getting hit by a dolphin. In the photo, which has since been discredited as an amazingly clever photoshop job, both the man and the dolphin were inside a circle, with a large arrow pointing at them. In another instance, a man surfing at Maui’s Peahi (Jaws), was sucked over the falls. Neither man remembers either the circle or the arrow. “I don’t even remember my own name,” the man hit by the dolphin said. “I don’t know where I live, who my wife is, or what my kids’ names are.” The last thing he remembers, he says, came just after the incident. “A man in a dark suit walked up to me on the beach, asked me about the arrow, then flashed something in my eyes… but before that, nothing.” Photographers captured the circle and arrow, but any attempts for comment have been roundly denied, and all their phone numbers have been disconnected.

“It was the strangest thing,” said Ro’onui Temana, a Tahitian who was in the water that day at Teahupoo. “Out of nowhere, this huge shadow fell across the lineup. Everyone stopped and stared for a minute, looking up at it.” Temana has heard of such sightings in the past, but this was the first time he has ever seen one. “Y’know,” he continued, “I don’t think anyone would have believed me if they weren’t there or it wasn’t on video, but I’m pretty flabbergasted.”

According to reports from awed spectators on the beach, a pod of dolphins wearing party hats, a great white shark mating with a blue whale, and a drunk man wearing diapers on a Jet Ski surfaced just beneath the arrow. They were immediately surrounded by a large, red circle. “I still don’t know what that signifies,” Temana said, “but I’m pretty sure something crazy happened out there. We were all just too distracted by the arrow to look at what was in the circle. I hope it’s online tonight.”
