Teahupo’o is one of those places that’s prone to fits of legendary waves. When a giant swell points itself towards that fabled bit of reef, all eyes turn towards it. The best big wave surfers on earth book flights, the cameramen get their gear ready, the skis are gassed up, and the float vests are outfitted with new cartridges.
Back in August one of those swells lined up. It was during the 2019 Tahiti Pro, which always makes for good watching, but when it became apparent that things were going to be just a little too big to run the trials, it turned into a free-surfing session for the ages. All the best were there, including Jack Robinson, Nathan Florence, and the powerhouse locals. Red Bull strung together nearly eight-minutes of some truly mind-blowing footage.
