The Inertia

The fate of a kayaker who went missing last week near Mission Beach has finally been discovered. A body discovered by a San Diego surfer has been confirmed to be the missing man.

Danny Marron was last seen near Mission Beach on Valentine’s Day, where he had been kayaking. Later that day, his snapped in half outrigger kayak washed up nearby. His disappearance kicked off a search that was ultimately called off after three days, due to environmental factors and the diminishing likelihood that Marron had survived.

Five days after Marron first went missing, lifeguards were called out to Ocean Beach by a surfer who found a human torso in the lineup. After multiple search efforts, the remains were finally recovered when they washed ashore and were discovered by a man running along the beach with his son. At the time, the body was presumed to be Marron, but it had still not been confirmed.

Now, those remains have been positively identified as belonging to Danny Marron, as a county spokesperson confirmed to NBC 7 San Diego on Friday afternoon.
