The Inertia

Wouldn’t it be nice if every session was a session with absolutely perfect waves? Of course, if that were actually the case, the shine would dull quickly, so the fact that “perfect days” are so few and far between makes those days that much better. But, unless you’re able to travel constantly, have a keen eye for swells, and are able to surf anywhere in the world whenever you want to, chances are good that you’re going to be surfing slop every now and again. It’s a constant battle to find a surfboard that’ll work in a variety of conditions, and even the professionals aren’t immune to the struggle. Case in point: Bobby Martinez.

He, though, has a model called the Bobby Quad. He’s been riding it for about five years now, generally in the smaller stuff. “This was made to be a groveler,” he says. “And then it turned into being a really good board in really good waves. I’ve never had that before, ever.”

What a nice surprise, right? He brought it pumping Rincon one day, and figured he’d give it a shot, just to see what it was like. “It just blew my mind,” he continued. “I realized it was a really good board, even in really good waves.”

Now, we’re not all able to surf like Bobby Martinez, but the fact that he’s riding a board that is, perhaps, a little more conducive to the Average Joe, is pretty dang encouraging, isn’t it?
