The Inertia

When you consider the entire border of Germany, Germans are rather landlocked. They do, however, have a decent sized coast in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, but swell windows in these regions are extremely narrow and the weather conditions are absolutely dreadful. When I think of waves in Germany, I think of the waves produced by raging river rapids, accompanied with 20 guys in 6-mil wetties, eagerly waiting for their mates to fall so they can have a crack. Ira Mowen, however, discovered an entirely new kind of wave. A kind of wave that does not require traditional surf reports, but, instead, requires patience. Cold, hard patience.

The wave is produced by the wake of large ship that pass by a harbor. Ira Mowen produced a documentary about his quest to catch this clandestine wave before the ship that produces it is gone forever.
