They say Billy Kemper is one of the hardest-working men in professional surfing. The perennial Jaws standout and defending Big Wave Tour champion has virtually crossed off every major big wave accolade in the book in the last few years. For Billy, though, the highest of highs haven’t come without some of the lowest of lows. As he explains above, at a young age he and his family had to deal with the crushing loss of his brother. And recently Billy and his family have had to adjust to life without his mother – a matriarch in every sense.
With such matters to provide additional context, it seems the “hardest working” part doesn’t fully encompass what Billy has achieved over the years. Really, the man is a shining example of the strength of the human spirit, and what determination and perseverance look like in real terms.
