Of all the events in surfing, the Backdoor Shootout might be one of the best. It’s an event for surfers more than it is for casual surf fans. It runs at the North Shore’s best wave on the best days and its competitors are the best surfers on the best days.
Although the contest is not really made for a wheat farmer who watched Blue Crush once, if you were to ask that farmer to name a wave and a surfer, it’s going to be Kelly Slater or Bethany Hamilton, and of course Pipeline. The video you see here, courtesy of Off Da Lip, features Bethany doing what she does best on day one of the Backdoor Shootout at Pipe. So it’s bound to get some eyes – even those of non surfers.
Also included are a handful of rides from Shayden Pacarro, Kaulana Apo, Luke Tema, and Koa Smith, but it’s tough to beat Bethany in any situation.
