Remember all the way back in August when Maya Gabeira spat fire at the World Surf League, accusing them of “ignoring requests to help get her in the Guinness Book of World Records?” She even started a petition. “In order to establish a world record, I need the World Surf League to certify the measurement of the wave,” she wrote at the time. “For some reason, the WSL has ignored my request.” Well, now there’s whole new special edition of the Big Wave Awards called the Women’s Biggest Wave World Record category. As the name implies, it’s dedicated to the biggest wave surfed by a woman. It’s a list of the usual suspects at the usual places: Maya Gabeira, Justine Dupont, Andrea Moller, Paige Alms, Keala Kennelly, etc, at giant, terrifyingly-beautiful waves like Jaws, Nazare, and Belharra. Below are the nominations.
