Nathan Florence likes to punish himself. Whether he’s surfing waves of ridiculous consequence or training to surf those waves, he’s not taking the easy way. It’s likely that mindset is what led him to becoming one of the most popular surfers in the world. It’s also likely that that mindset is what led him to having quads the size of tree trunks. Over the last few years, he’s shared a handful of his workouts with the wider world, and they never look easy. He’s caught the eye of Bert Kreischer, a.k.a. “The Machine.”
Kreischer has fingers in a lot of pies. Stand-up comedian, actor, and podcaster, he was once called “the top partier at the number-one party school in the country” by Rolling Stone magazine. That article, interestingly enough, served as the inspiration for National Lampoon’s Van Wilder. He’s got a podcast with Tom Segura and another with Bill Burr. Yeah, he’s been around the block a time or two. But those blocks likely didn’t prepare him for a brutal Nate Florence field workout. “The damn MACHINE came and sent with the crew!” Nathan wrote. “Guy is a beast! We love it!”
Afterwards, to celebrate the workout, the Machine took Koa and Nate to a bar to try one of his workouts. “He demolished us in the drinking workout,” Nathan laughed. “Koa and I blacked out and Bert was still not drunk!”
