Ben Gravy has a knack for finding man-made waves. Sometimes they’re intentional, like when he cobbled together his own artificial wave pool out of a pickup truck and some plywood. Most of the time, though, they’re the accidental byproduct of some other, non-surfing related venture. The most prominent examples are his beloved ferry waves, which he has ridden many times. In his latest video, Gravy has done it again – this time tracking down a few waves that came about as a result of dredging on a nearby New Jersey Beach.
“It’s always an epic time when the state of New Jersey comes through to build me a brand new 10 million dollar wave pool during their dredge project,” wrote Gravy in the caption. Surprisingly, though, the YouTuber did not seem to be on board for the state’s efforts to mitigate beach erosion. “The NJ taxpayers pay out the wazoo for this ‘beach replenishment’ madness, so it’s nice to know that at least surfers are benefiting a little bit from it!”
