When it comes to river waves, there aren’t many rivers more famous than the one on the Snake River. It Snake runs through Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Ben’s been wanting to ride the famous “Lunch Counter,” near Jackson Hole, for years, but as is often the case, time went slipping into the future and it took him almost a decade to finally get there.
“I’ve been hearing about this wave my whole life,” Gravy said. “I’ve seen tons of footage, so I had a lot of anxiety showing up here… it’s kind of like just showing up at a famous surf break.”
But of course, a surf trip isn’t solely about surfing. It’s about getting there. It’s about the people you meet and the things you see. And on this particular trip, 2,000-some-odd miles from his home, Ben Gravy saw a lot of things and met a lot of people. And he finally surfed the Snake. Mission successful.
“It’s kind of hard to wrap my head around the fact that we’re actually just out here doing this!” he continued. “Something in my heart has always pushed me to explore my boundaries, but finding waves and river surfing in unexpected places is what my dream is all about.”
