The Inertia

The so-called “day of the decade” only comes around… well, once in a decade. It takes a pretty solid and well-directed swell to create conditions good enough to earn that title, but recently California was hit by a run of swell that was both of those things in quite a few different zones. Maverick’s, Black’s, Rincon, and La Jolla Cove all went off, as well as many others, and Ben Gravy was there to feast on as much of it as he could.

“It’s not often you experience the ‘day of the decade’ surf at any spot, let alone the world renowned big wave novelty of La Jolla Cove in San Diego,” Ben Gravy wrote. “Obviously this wave isn’t the craziest thing ever, but it is cool to hear that it hasn’t broken since Big Wednesday 2014 or something…?”

Now, this particular wave needs a whole lot of swell to work, and as you can see in the video above, there was indeed a whole lot of swell.
