The Inertia

Ben Gravy just surfed what he is calling the sketchiest wave of his life. The wave in question was a beautiful little a-frame – that just happened to be breaking right on top of a dry rock.

“It’s been a journey to finally get out and catch a few at the scariest wave that I’ve ever surfed,” wrote Gravy in the caption on his YouTube video documenting the experience. The journey was part of his latest surf trip to an unnamed “remote tropical island” that eagle-eyed commenters are calling out as the Bahamas.

After a quick detour to another, only slightly less sketchy wave, Gravy tempted fate on top of the rock. One ride in particular had him literally running out of a barrel. “When I got off the wave it was this deep,” he says, holding his fingers two inches apart.

In the end, Gravy emerged unscathed, though his board did not.  “Was it worth it for the wave of the day?” he says while emerging from the surf, showing off a completely destroyed fin box. Turns out it was, because immediately afterwards, he saddled up on a slightly more indestructible foam board and went back to it.

“By far the sketchiest wave I’ve ever surfed in my entire life, no joke,” he gleefully summed up. “That was insane.”
