The Inertia

Ben Gravy isn’t a one of those surfers who only surfs on the best days. He’s not a wave snob in any sense of the word. Sure, he appreciates a very good wave, but if there isn’t one around, he’s just as happy riding some kind of weird novelty wave. He’ll travel far and wide looking for them. Novelty waves, in fact, are his bread and butter. They’re the waves that garnered him a huge following, and he’s not giving up on them as his star rises.

In his most recent vlog, Gravy teamed up with Blair Conklin to surf yet another ferry wake. Waves off the back of a ferry aren’t always that great, but if you find the right one in the right area with the right bathymetry, all that displaced water can turn into something really, really fun.

“It’s been a few years since I surfed the Nantucket ferry,” he wrote. “I’ve received a good amount of intel on another even bigger wave in the same area. With some convincing from Blair Conklin I decided to pull the trigger and make the journey up to Massachusetts to see what all the hype was about. This high speed ferry wave did not disappoint!”
