Ben Gravy may have been in San Diego for Comic-Con, but that didn’t stop him from checking out the surf. While in town to promote his latest vinyl collectible toy, the novelty wave hunter linked up with skimboarder Blair Conklin to check out a local “secret spot” that turned out to be more than they bargained for.
A few months ago, Gravy announced he was getting in the toy game. His collaboration with toy manufacturer Smeye World yielded a diminutive vinyl figure, appropriately dubbed “100% Stoke.” In order to promote the toy, Gravy made a pilgrimage to Comic-Con this weekend and the annual nerd-culture Mecca provided the perfect opportunity to sign merch, meet with fans and wander the convention floor to check out the competition.
However, no trip to SoCal would be complete without at least one venture out into the surf. After the convention, he was joined by Conklin at a local cove, where they landed some surprisingly heavy surf (relatively speaking) and just barely survived paddling out in a tandem kayak.
