To most surfers, traveling 2,000 miles to 34-degree water and into 20 inches of snow with the chance to score isn’t a good idea. Actually, after typing that sentence it doesn’t sound like a great idea to me either, but I did it anyway. Experiencing what the Great Lakes warriors go through just to score a few waves was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. Pulling off a mission like this requires an absence of fear when driving through blizzards, AAA roadside assistance and insurance, and the ability to just say “yes.” It was heavy, there were plenty of ups and downs, but we absolutely scored the Great Lakes.
