In mid-March, Audi dropped an advertisement. It was a good one — beautifully shot and directed by Daniel Askill of Lady Gaga music video fame and scored by composer Aska Matsumiya, it starred Stephanie Gilmore, Coco Ho, and Leah Dawson surfing at Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch. The venue makes perfect sense, given that Audi’s tagline is “Electric Wave.” It was to promote Audi’s new electric vehicle, and like any good production, there was a lot that went into it.
The women surfed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. which worked out to 10 hours of surfing. We’re not sure about this, but that’s probably the longest continuous session anyone’s ever had at the Surf Ranch. Convicts Media is still riding the wave of attention that came with the spot, so they decided to release a behind-the-scenes film of how it all came together — and it’s arguably better than the film itself.
