Arran Strong was forced to walk away from surfing for a year following an epileptic attack in 2018. The 22-year-old QS surfer already suffered previous chronic health conditions but refused to let that stop him from pursuing his passion. The short film, Arran the Strong Man, follows Strong’s journey to recovery through triathlon training to propel him back into surfing— and straight into the tube.
“The project was initiated in 2019 with the aim to showcase not only surfing content but also my personal journey of overcoming certain difficulties and coming back to doing what I love,” said Strong. His passion, drive, and gratitude for the ocean shines through in the film. Spoiler alert: on several occasions, deep in the pit, Strong smiles wide and raises his hands in praise, showing that above all, he has emerged Strong from the struggles he faced.
