The Inertia

For a little while there, there appeared to be a decent chance that finless surfboards would become an everyday part of lineups. There were a few finless surfboards that hit the market, even, but a few years later, it looks like the majority of surfers have decided against it. I think I know why, too: it’s very, very difficult. But for a select few who’ve managed to wrap their heads around finless surfing, there’s not going back.

You can’t talk about finless surfing without talking about Derek Hynd, of course, but there are a few other stalwarts like Jordan Rodin and Ari Browne, the latter of whom is featured in the video above.

It’s wildly difficult to get as good as Browne is — a mix of determination and talent that takes years to hone — but for those who love speed and the feeling of a high line… well, there’s nothing else like riding a chunk of foam sans skegs.
