The Inertia

The Wedge is one of my absolute favorite places to shoot and I spent many days chasing swells at this crazy, bone-breaking spot in 2021. For an atypical wave, this was a pretty typical season: big days, crazy barrels, wild wipeouts.

Occasionally somebody made one of those barrels. Nobody knows the exact percentage, but I’d take a stab and say 90 percent of all barrels at the Wedge end with a rider pulling sand out of their trunks, hair, ears, or anywhere else on their body. We have plenty of that in this video, with guys who are potentially still finding sand in places it shouldn’t be months later. But I also wanted to compile some of those rare makes, aka “Wedge Unicorns,” with people actually making it out of those impossible cylinders.
