When dark blobs show up on swell charts, the blood in Andrew Cotton and Garrett McNamara’s veins starts furiously pumping. During a massive swell yesterday at Nazaré, Portugal’s most notorious and protected big wave spot, the two hellmen went to check it out and decide for themselves whether they could ride these giants.
The mission is to surf the biggest wave ever and, with cataclysmic storms colliding with the Zon North Canyon, the resulting waves were predicted to yield such conditions. Andrew Cotton was whipped into a truly massive wave. Whether or not it was the biggest has yet to be determined, however Andrew did not make it out and was consumed by the frothy mess behind him.
If Andrew Cotton had made the wave, do you believe it would have been the largest wave ever surfed?
