The Inertia

American Wave Machines, the company behind PerfectSwell surf pools, today announced a multi-year exclusive national license agreement with Brazilian real estate development company JHSF. The deal grants JHSF exclusive license to PerfectSwell technology in Brazil and signals continued growth in wave pool technology in the region.

The companies previously worked together on JHSF’s Boa Vista Village development, which features a massive, six-acre surf pool (where you can see Italo Ferreira and Gabriel Medina surfing above). The followup to the project will be the upcoming São Paulo Surf Club.

American Wave Machines’ PerfectSwell technology has also been used at Waco Surf, which debuted in 2018. Then, in 2021, the technology was featured at the Shizunami Surf Stadium. The Japanese wave pool was built for Olympic surfers to train ahead the Tokyo games, but is still in use today.

“We’re stoked to extend our strategic partnership with JHSF and continue adding to the legacy of surfing excellence in Brazil. The Brazilian Storm is real, JHSF and their clients are champions for surfing in more ways than one,” said Bruce McFarland, CEO of AWM. “PerfectSwell projects on the horizon in Brazil are nothing short of world class and we will continue delivering our highest tier specification at each new location with JHSF creating world class surf experiences.”

“Together JHSF and AWM have proven PerfectSwell and Real Estate have complete synergy in delivering a unique experience with quality and excellence,” added JHSF CEO, Thiago Alonso de Oliveira.
