Alex Gray is a man who does surfing right. His main goal isn’t winning trophies and receiving accolades—it’s getting barrels and having fun. Rest assured, he is meeting that goal. Most recently, he met that goal on CI’s new little wave buggy, the CI Twin Fin.
The shape came about (obviously) by way of the 1970s. Way back in the day, the man himself, Al Merrick, hacked out a similar shape. That, along with a garage sale find that had an outline reminiscent of those old boards, inspired Britt Merrick to create the Twin Fin. It’s got a bunch of the old stuff built into it, but with a modern flair. “To offset negative characteristics of a usual high-volume retro design,” explains the makers, “the Twin Fin’s rails are tapered and relatively thin feeling for added sensitivity and responsiveness.”
