Last weekend, while everybody’s attention was focused on Nazaré, Alex Gray and Anthony Walsh were busy charging one of Europe’s most dangerous slabs in Ericeira. The swell angle and conditions were less than ideal but the two surfers decided to get after it anyway, finding their way into several bombs.
The “Máquina Voadora” drone team captured some aerial footage of the session. According to the team, “The best bombs of the session were not ridden and probably for the best reasons. Things were not easy on Sunday. Grant Twiggy Baker and Owen Schultz [were also in the water], but only Alex and Anthony caught waves. One each.”
The Cave has claimed several victims in recent years, including Portuguese champ Tiago “Saca” Pires, big wave surfer António Silva, and some of Europe’s best bodyboarders, who’ve all taken their fair share of stitches from sessions here.
