The Inertia

Surfing, like most sports, is in a constant state of flux. The boundaries are perpetually being pushed. Maneuvers are always being invented. Even where we surf is continually changing, too. Perhaps no one else is at the forefront of this progression more so than Albee Layer. The Maui boy is leading the innovation charge when it comes to above-the-lip tricks and charging XXL surf. And just over the weekend, he was the first champion of a stadium style manmade surf contest.

The latest from The Habitat, an ongoing series from Albee and his friends, is here and it does not disappoint. The near seven-minute clip opens with Albee putting on an absolute clinic in progression. His air game is insane from his signature full-rotation alley oops to a tweaked out homage to Christian Fletcher’s judo air. Later, Dege Connell, Kai Barger and Granger Larson get some screen time with Barger especially blowing up above-the-lip. But those guys are just an added cherry on top in comparison Albee’s full-course-meal of boundary breaking destruction. The future is here!
