The Inertia

The WSL Taiwan Open of Surfing was cancelled for the day due to strong wind and large surf from an approaching typhoon. On the other side of the wall at Jinzun Harbour, Taitung, though, there is a wave normally ridden by learners–a small, splitting, moderate peak. When there is a typhoon swell and the pro longboarders are in town, however, things change.

Taiwan wasn’t at all what I expected, and on this day it appeared more like Samoa or Indonesia with beautiful mountains, open barrels, and great waves.
