If you’ve been to the North Shore of Oahu, then you’ve likely at least glanced at Shark’s Cove. It’s a pretty little spot when the waves aren’t turning it into a boiling pot of angry foam, a place where tourists flock to when they want to snorkel in a tiny little fish bowl (or look for turtles). The waves on the outside are surfable at times, but when the Seven Mile Miracle is slammed by the size of swell that slammed it on November 24… well, it’s probably a good place to avoid. When Jamie O’Brien says a wave is the “most dangerous wave on the North Shore,” it’s best to heed his advice.
The rocks at Shark’s Cove are not soft. Most rocks aren’t, after all, but these ones are pretty damn sharp, too. One would assume that common sense would prevail in a situation like this, but if there’s one thing that is a constant, it’s that common sense isn’t actually all that common. The two people in the video posted by Hawaii News Now are, apparently, just fine and Ocean Safety was not called to the scene, but it was likely a pretty alarming wake up call.
