The Inertia

Unless you have had your eyes closed and your ears plugged up over the last few days, you’re certainly aware of the historic swell that slammed into Half Moon Bay on December 28th. Thanks to surf forecasting, Maverick’s surfers were well aware of what was coming before it arrived, and they were not disappointed.

Over the course of the swell,Pete Mel was a standout, as is the norm, and Kai Lenny chased the swell from Jaws to Mav’s, surfing two giant sessions in 24 hours, the wipeouts were about as bad as you’d expect, and a Jet Ski decided it didn’t need any help from a pesky pilot.

The swell exceeded the hype, and many of the best big wave surfers dipped their toes into that cold, angry sea. Above are the highlights, courtesy of the Mavericks Surf Awards.
