The Inertia

I have a bit of a divisive opinion on surfing alone versus surfing with friends or family. I do, of course, absolutely love those rare and fleeting sessions alone — exceedingly rare and fleeting — but there’s something about sharing the lineup with people you love that makes it just a little bit better. Hooting a friend or a loved one into a wave as you’re paddling over it, knowing they’re about to have a solid few seconds of pretty much the most fun a person can have is just about as good as having those few seconds to yourself. And when the Ho family gets together… well, they know how to squeeze the most fun out of every wave.

Mason, Coco, and Michael Ho paddled out together for a family surf session on a fun day at a wave they all know very well. Despite all the amazing waves they’ve collectively surfed alone, I’ll bet these days are the days they’ll remember. Three-person party waves with your family? Yeah, that’s hard to top.
