It’s no secret that the 805 area code between Oxnard and Santa Barbara has produced more than its fair share of world class surfers. At the top of that list would have to be former world champ Tom Curren. Then throw in names like Chris Brown, Bobby Martinez, Dane Reynolds, Tim and Nathaniel Curren, the Malloy Brothers, the Coffin Brothers, Kim Mearig, and Lakey Petersen… and, well, you start to get the picture.
A bevy of good but fiercely-guarded waves have allowed local emerging talents to hone their skills through the generations in anything from offshore beach break barrels to finely groomed point break perfection. The new era of grommets from the aforementioned area are achieving their own levels of success as well. Eithan Osborne, Micky Clarke, and Sean Woods are winning some of the bigger amateur events and looking towards possible futures as the next generation of WSL surfers from the area.
