It’s currently Thursday evening in Portugal. The sun is setting, the swell has peaked, the waves are still breaking, but now, they go unridden. What a day the surf world just witnessed with some of the biggest Atlantic swell in recent memory slamming into stalwarts like Mullaghmore and Nazaré. Conor Maguire caught the wave of a lifetime in Ireland. Meanwhile, in Portugal, the world’s best big wave surfers gathered at Nazaré and put on a show. Here are some highlights from the peaking XXL swell over the past two days.
The footage above is from @gigantesdenazare filmed during the ‘warm-up session’ on Wednesday, featuring Kai Lenny, Lucas ‘Chumbo’ Chianca, Nic von Rupp, Pedro Scooby, Justine Dupont and Andrew ‘Cotty’ Cotton.
Here’s one of Lucas from today, a wave he’s calling “the bomb of my life!”

While it was a massive swell, thankfully it appears no one was injured. Kai Lenny did get worked on this one, though. Fingers crossed his GoPro survived. That footage will be outrageous…
