Reef has been around for a long time. Thirty years, to be exact. Back in 1984, two brothers from Argentina, Fernando and Santiago “Santi” Aguerre, started making flip flops. They had $4000, an idea, and some pretty savvy marketing ideas, like butts. Wanting to separate themselves from every other surf brand, they used inspiration from their Latin American roots, and Miss Reef was born. While her face is never revealed, she’s supposed to be a symbol of how the brothers view the surfing lifestyle.
Now, thirty years later, Miss Reef has become one of the most recognizable surf icons – and she did it without ever showing her face. The 2015 calendar is out now at Reef.com.
