When Nazaré gets really big, it’s not a place for fun and games. Sure, the surfers who ride those giant waves are enjoying themselves — that’s what surfing is for — but it’s got to be a little bit different than the enjoyment one gets from say, a longboard session at a knee-high point break. Fun comes in different shapes and sizes, after all. And when Nazaré gets really big, so too do the wipeouts.
The footage you see above, captured by Global Zoo, is from the biggest and heaviest swell of the 2021/2022 season. Fingers crossed we’ll see a lot more of these kinds of waves this coming winter season.
