Early July was good at Kirra, to say the least. “Best-ever” is generally pretty hyperbolic, but in this case, it might be a valid statement. The perfect combination of period, direction, swell, and sand all came together for a wave event that’s being compared to the original Superbank back in the 2000s — which, for those that remember, was just about as perfect as perfect gets. Since Australia is full of really good surfers and Kirra is one of the best waves there — or anywhere, for that matter — a lot of familiar faces showed up in the lineup, including Joel Parkinson, Dean Morrison, and Mick Fanning.
